Görz, Gorizia, Nova Gorica – three names for a town on the border that embodies Europe's turbulent history. Once a vibrant multicultural city under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Görz became part of Italy at the end of the 19th century. The border drawn in 1947 further separated it from Slovenia. In response, Nova Gorica was born, and today, the two cities are united as a dynamic, modern hub and Europe’s first cross-border cultural capital, officially known as GO 2025. Christine Helfer was there for the opening.
