The Sorbs – A Slavic People in Germany

The West Slavic Sorbs are recognised as a national minority in Germany. It is estimated that today there are about 20 000 – 30 000 active Sorbian language speakers. In recent years, the Sorbian people have staged a number of protests, including one in 2001 against the closure of the Sorbian language middle school in Crostwitz, or the 2008 protest against the budget cuts of Brandenburg and the Federal Government.
